Overview
Community-led monitoring (CLM) is a system of community-developed and community-owned data collection and monitoring that leads to the implementation of solutions to respond to the evidence that communities have collected.
Ritshidze is made up of the National Association of People Living with HIV (NAPWA), Positive Action Campaign, Positive Women’s Network, the South African Network of Religious Leaders Living with HIV (SANERELA+), and the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) who work together to implement CLM that is centrally coordinated, independent, and transparent. The main objective is to improve the overall quality of HIV, TB and other health services for people living with HIV, key populations, and other public healthcare users.
The Key Populations Monitors will be responsible for data collection among communities of key populations including the LGBTQIA+ community, people who use drugs, and sex workers to assess the state of services provided at public health facilities, drop-in centres, and mobile clinics. The Key Populations Monitors will identify and recruit people to take part in quantitative and qualitative data collection. After data collection, the Key Populations Monitors will support data analysis, solution generation, and engagement with duty bearers to raise the challenges identified during data collection.
Responsibilities
- To identify, mobilise and recruit LGBTQIA+ community members, people who use drugs, and sex workers to take part in Ritshidze community-led monitoring efforts
- To engage in quantitative data collection and ensure all data is uploaded to CommCare
- To support on qualitative data collection including collecting stories
- To ensure proper use of informed consent scripts and follow internal agreed process for security and safety of data
- To engage in data analysis and generate solutions to problems identified including through discussions with LGBTQIA+ community members, people who use drugs, and sex workers
- To support engagement of duty bearers at clinic, district and provincial levels
- To support the organisation of high impact community accountability meetings
- To monitor the implementation of commitments of duty bearers
- To feedback to LGBTQIA+ community members, people who use drugs, and sex workers on engagement efforts with duty bearers and commitments made
Requirements
- Experience in organising, advocacy and/or mobilisation
- Demonstrated understanding of the HIV epidemic and issues related to LGBTQIA+ community members, people who use drugs, and sex workers
- Demonstrated commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all including key populations and people living with HIV
- Experience in community-led monitoring and/or other data collection (desirable)
- Knowledge of HIV and TB treatment literacy (desirable)
- Experience and involvement in a branch or structure of one of the PLHIV Sector organisations or other relevant structure (desirable)
- Experience in using a computer or tablet including Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and an ability to learn how to use apps/ web platforms like CommCare and the data dashboard etc.
- Self-motivated and able to work and communicate well in a remote team
- Ability to multi-task, effectively set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Collaborative worker who is good at building and maintaining effective relationships
- Experience working to a budget
- Good communication skills in English and one or more other South African languages
- Able & willing to travel frequently within the relevant district and at times across the province and country
- Expectation of work outside regular weekday hours, as required to do the job
